Supporting and Enabling
EuroRAP’s annual plenary meetings and regional workshops are an important forum for this interaction, giving an opportunity for countries to discuss their progress and results and report back on plans, research and evaluation exercises.
EuroRAP can assist in the planning and procurement for a programme or project directly if required. The RAP accredited suppliers are network of road safety professionals and companies are capable of competitively bidding to provide high-quality RAP assessments.
The RAP Centres of Excellence provide expertise, ownership and leadership for RAP at a technical level.
Training
To support the face to face training courses, RAPcapacity provides online courses introducing people to the RAP protocols, help them to understand what the results mean and learn how to undertake RAP-specification road assessments
The University of Birmingham (UK) iRAP course in Road Safety introduces to people the RAP protocols. The course covers:
- The fundamentals of the iRAP approach to risk assessment and mitigation
- The concept of star rating based on inspection data and road designs
- The principles of developing a safer road investment plan
The course includes practical exercises, discussions and exposure to the iRAP software. The course is delivered in the state-of-the-art teaching and learning facilities of the University of Birmingham.
ViDA Online Software
Users of ViDA are able to upload road inspection data to produce detailed condition reports, Star Ratings and Safer Road Investment Plans. You can also use the Star Rating Demonstrator to quickly check the Star Rating of an existing road or a road design.
You can register to use ViDA free at vida.irap.org
Watch a video tour of ViDA or download the user guide.

Road Safety Toolkit
In addition to advice on countermeasures, which range from basic line marking to complete highway duplication, the Toolkit helps engineers and planners customise safety plans for all road users including car occupants, motorcyclists, pedestrians, bicyclists, heavy vehicle occupants and public transport users, and for various crash types, such as head-ons, intersections, lane-changes, manoeuvring, rear end shunts and running off the road.
The Road Safety Toolkit is the result of collaboration between iRAP, the Global Transport Knowledge Partnership (gTKP) and the World Bank Global Road Safety Facility. ARRB Group provided expert advice during the Toolkit’s development.
