AMSS Launch EuroRAP-Serbia Road Inspections03/Apr/2008 ![]() The inspection of some 3,000km of the Serbian road network was launched with a well-attended press conference on April 3, 2008 at the Belgrade truck show, a date chosen to coincide with the 105th anniversary of the first car imported into Serbia (April 3, 1903) and the beginning of mobility. Inspections will be carried out by iRAP and AMSS using the RACC inspection vehicle and video equipment. Covering 200-250km per day, the route combines urban, semi-urban and rural roads, with European trade routes and roads important to local people also included. Results expected in winter 2008 will present Star Rating maps showing the relative risk safety for car occupants, motorcyclists, bicyclists and pedestrians. Results will also be used to generate investment programmes of low-cost, high-return engineering countermeasures likely to save the most lives. With the involvement and commitment of the key stakeholders in Serbia through the Steering Committee and Executive Committee, there is excellent potential for the inspection results to be used to significantly improve the safety standard of Serbia's roads and contribute to national casualty reduction. The EuroRAP Serbia project is financially supported by iRAP and the World Bank Global Road Safety Facility. |
